Hitschie’s – German Chewy Candy since 1929

Beschreibung: Founded in 1929, Hitschler is one of the oldest candy companies in Germany, and although the name is not as well-known as Haribo you most likely had some of their iconic sweets like “Schnüre”, “Hitschie’s”, or “Brause Flummies” if you grew up in Germany.

Founded in 1929, Hitschler is one of the oldest candy companies in Germany, and although the name is not as well-known as Haribo you most likely had some of their iconic sweets like “Schnüre”, “Hitschie’s”, or “Brause Flummies” if you grew up in Germany.

Since May 2019, European Food Import is exclusively bringing these premium quality candies to the U.S. Hitschie’s are non-GMO, gluten free, and made with fruit juice. Available on Amazon and their own web shop https://hitschies.com/. Soon they are also available in supermarkets and convenience stores near you.

Hitschie’s made their official U.S. debut at the Fancy Food Show in June 2019 in New York. Hans Heer and Steven Kravets of European Food Import were happy to report that fair visitors loved the products, although some never saw or tasted these types of products before. “There are some similar candies produced in the U.S. and Canada, but the taste and quality is not the same”, says Hans Heer.

Quick history:

► 1920/30ties: Ferdinand Hitschler sells tobacco and cachous – small licorice candy – and later officially founds “Hitschler’s Cachou”.

► 1940ties: Walter Hitschler joins the company, now “Ferdinand Hitschler & Sohn“, focusing on adding chewing gum and other sweets.

► 1950ties: The company changes its name once again to “Hitschler International”, and starts producing sweets as well as running the first chewing gum facility in Germany.

► 1960/70ties: Expansion into new markets and addition of two classic sweets that are still produced today: “Fruchtgummi Schnüre” (gummi strings) and Softi Strip Chews.

► 1980/90ties: Hitschie’s are invented with many new flavors added over the next two decades.

► 2000 until present: The company maintains its commitment to innovation, releasing new products with an emphasis on natural ingredients.

► 2019: European Food Import LLC. introduces Hitschie’s to the U.S. market for the first time. he first time.
