The Steuben Society of America celebrate their 100-year anniversary on May 19th at the prestigious West Point Club in upstate New York. Official guests of honor included Boris Ruge, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Germany, and Major Gen. Donald E. Jackson, Jr.,Army Pentagon, both based in Washington, D.C.
Several national chapters sent delegations from as far as Texas to attend the event. After the speeches honoring General von Steuben and his accomplishments in the War of Independence and his importance for the structure of the U.S. Army until today, dinner guests danced the afternoon away to the Music of Gregory and the Mountain Brauhaus Band.
The Steuben Society of America, founded in 1919, is an educational, fraternal, and patriotic organization of American citizens of German background. The stated purpose of the Society is “to educate the public about matters of interest to American citizens of German descent and their families, to encourage participation in civic affairs, and to perpetuate and enhance the understanding of contributions made by such citizens to the development of the United States of America.”
